When we first met, my husband and I discussed holidays. I proclaimed my love for all things Christmas and my husband gave me a sour face. I called him the Grinch who stole Christmas, and the name stuck around. So every Christmas since then, we burst into the song "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch", whenever he is being a big ole meanie about my desire to squeeze the life outta Christmas.
Doll Face has picked up our little inside joke and calls Daddy, the Grinch. We do it out of love, because in all honestly, my husband is a sweet guy. And even though he doesn't admit it, I think he likes Christmas.
So last night we celebrated in true Christmas fashion by having a Grinch night. I picked up a recipe for a Grinch drink on Pinterest but decided I didn't like the sherbet that they were suggesting , or the Sprite soda. So, I went to Safeway and decided to look around to see what I could come up with.
Here is what I bought to make our Grinch Drink:
(1) Gallon of Vanilla ice cream
(1) 4pk of Jones Green Apple Soda
(1) Green Sugar
I rimmed our cups with the green sugar
Mixed the ice cream and green apple soda
Tossed a straw in it and
Ta-da! Perfect Grinch ice cream float.
We drank our floats as we read "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" aloud to Doll Face. She immediately got into the story. Asking questions about the Grinch and making comments as she slurped her float. She is familiar with the story but still finds it amusing each and every time we read it to her or she watches the movie.
Afterwards, we sat down and watched the movie. The cartoon version from 1966. We ended our night with Grinchy delight.
What fun things do you do with your loved ones during the Christmas season? Do you find yourself repeating any fun traditions? Please feel free to share.

ReplyDeleteSo clever! What's sweet about this tradition, aside from its originality, is that your daughter will most likely repeat it someday. Love it. You made me smile with your reference to Safeway and reminded me of California. We don't have them here on the East Coast.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Grinch night should become a family tradition! My boyfriend has to be a trooper and deal with my holiday fanaticism too. You an I must be cut fromt he same holiday cloth :)
