By now, you know how much I love to save money and finding great deals. Saving money doesn't have to take much effort, but it does take a little bit of planning. And I am not talking about the planning that you see going on "Extreme Couponers". Where the ladies/men literally make a part time job of looking for deals. By planning, I mean, just buying things you know you are going to need ahead of time.
I love Target for many reasons, but I love them specifically for their clearance sales that they have. At the end of each season, Target marks down their stock for quick sale. Sometimes we get lucky and see items marked down 90%. My eyes literally bug out of my head when I see that 90% off sign, okay I'm kidding. But I do get pretty excited and usually I buy what I want for next years holidays from these clearance sales. My favorite clearances are the Christmas clearance and the toy clearance.
Toy clearance? Yup, you heard me right. Every January and July, Target will clearance out a lot of their toy stock. The big drop off, up to 70%, usually happens the third week in January/July. And this my friends is the time to stock up on toys for any birthday parties you may be attending in the near future.
I tend to make a list of all the upcoming birthdays (within the next 6 months) and try to figure out the age group that the children will fall into. This helps when I go to the store to ransack the toy aisles. I store said toys in a closet that I have dedicated "The gift closet". When it comes time to go to a birthday party, I simply go to my gift closet, pick something out and go to the party.
This toy clearance has been very good to me. In January, I stocked up on birthday gifts and in July I stock up on Christmas/birthday gifts.
Kinda extreme? Not really. I tend to pay around $5-$10 for each toy and save an average of 70%. I mean, you can't really get any better than that. At the end of the day, you save and the kiddos are happy. And that is all that matters.
Why am I writing this? Because the big drop off is scheduled to happen soon! I think it will probably happen next week but this is always a toss up, you just never know since Target doesn't have a set schedule. But my guess is next week, on Wednesday, since my local target is still at 30%.
We will see, what happens. And I will definitely let you know when it does happen. If you are unable to purchase anything this time around because of your budget, don't fret. Another toy clearance will happen in July. So there is plenty of time to set aside some cash for that toy clearance.
We like to get most of our Christmas shopping done at the July toy clearance. So we set aside a set amount for that toy clearance. Not only does this help us stay on budget but it also saves us time/hassle when it comes to Christmas. These toy clearance prices beat Black Friday hands down.
Enjoy!
Here are some of my scores from the past:

Some of my blogger friends have been showing off their hauls from Target's Christmas clearance and I've been crying because all of my Targets had their stocks GONE at 50% off. We didn't even see 75% off or 90%. And then we've been stalking the toys and they aren't putting anything out either. Its just Christmas returns. This is the downside of living in a popular area. But I'm happy that you can score!
ReplyDeleteIt's always hit and miss with our local targets. I usually have to drive to a couple when stuff gets marked down. But I don't see anything good this January. So I think I will be skipping it this January until July. :(
DeleteI haven't seen anything good this year for the kiddos I usually buy toys for. It's harder when they get older!
ReplyDeleteIt is harder when they get older. I didn't see anything good either, and what I did want.. someone snatched up and took. Boo!
DeleteI was just there omg they have amazing deals! Love what you got!!!
